Most blocks in Al Manhal are named rather than numbered, and the name is what a driver will find first from the street. Send the building name, then the floor and flat number.
Where a block has a manned desk, we hand over at reception unless you tell us otherwise. Where it does not, the driver calls from the entrance and you come down.
If your entrance faces a service lane rather than the main street, one line saying so removes the only real source of delay in this district.
The palace wall, and why the grid stops
Al Manhal Palace occupies a walled site of roughly 143 acres on Al Falah Street — the road older residents still call Passport Road — and it is associated with the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Its footprint interrupts the street grid, so a route that looks direct on a map can require a detour of several blocks. Drivers who work this district know the way round; a first-time visitor usually does not.
Hotel apartments and serviced blocks
Al Manhal has an unusual concentration of hotel and serviced apartments for a residential district — Centro Al Manhal by Rotana, Al Rawda Arjaan by Rotana, Grand Villaggio and the Marriott Hotel Downtown among them.
For those, give us the property name and your room or apartment number. Some front desks will accept a delivery on your behalf and some will not, so if yours does not, meet the driver in the lobby.
The streets that cut through
Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street bounds the district on one side. Khalifa Bin Shakhbout Street, Mubarak Bin Mohammed Street, Al Karamah Street and Zayed the First Street carry most of the rest of the traffic.
Al Manhal neighbours Al Nahyan, Al Khalidiyah, Al Mushrif and Al Bateen, and the Corniche is about seven minutes away. Greenfield Mall, Al Wahda Mall and Khalidiyah Mall are all short hops.
Abu Dhabi International School, the German International School and the Canadian International School set the afternoon traffic. King's College Hospital London Medical and Surgical Centre and Nation Hospital are the medical landmarks drivers use.
