The three models below came before the i range. They are still current in Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and withdrawn in Switzerland and Japan where only the i range is now listed — so this generation has not been discontinued globally, whatever a single market's shelf suggests.
What the i range changed, in one line each: it added a touch screen to two of the three models, added FlexPuff and FlexBattery, added Pause Mode, and raised consecutive sticks from 2 to 3 on the two-piece devices. What it did not change: the sticks. Both generations take exactly the same TEREA.

How the SMARTCORE system works
TEREA sticks carry a stainless-steel heating element inside the stick, and the device heats it by induction. The manufacturer's wording is that the system "heats tobacco from inside the stick" and "works without a heating blade". That is why an ILUMA cannot heat a HEETS stick, and why there is no blade to clean.

Which IQOS ILUMA models are in this range?
Three: IQOS ILUMA PRIME, IQOS ILUMA, IQOS ILUMA ONE. Two are two-piece devices with a separate holder and pocket charger; one is an all-in-one.
What is the difference between a two-piece device and an all-in-one?
A two-piece has a holder you smoke from and a pocket charger that recharges it, so you get several sessions before the charger itself needs power. An all-in-one is a single unit — smaller to carry, but when it is flat it is flat.
Do all of these take the same TEREA sticks?
Yes. Every device in the IQOS ILUMA family heats TEREA sticks, from any of our origins. What differs between models is battery, controls and size, not which sticks fit.
Can any of them use HEETS?
No. The manufacturer states that IQOS ILUMA "is used exclusively with TEREA tobacco sticks" and "cannot be used with HEETS tobacco sticks". A HEETS stick has no metal element inside it, so induction has nothing to heat.
Do these devices need cleaning?
Not the heating path. There is no blade going into the tobacco, so the manufacturer states the device "does not require cleaning". The charging port still needs an occasional wipe.
Which colours can I get?
